Fourth year medical student, Tyler Kidd has been named as the recipient of the Dr. and Mrs. Roy Gregory Scholarship for Family Medicine.
The scholarship aims to support a medical student who has a commitment to pursuing a career in family medicine.
Tyler said his passion for wellness and disease education is what drove his interest in a career in family medicine.
“For me, family medicine is a way to take care of the community of all ages and backgrounds,” Tyler said.
“I really want to make an impact on a grassroots sort of level with preventive care.”
Before starting his medical school journey, Tyler grew up in San Diego, California, and graduate of the University of California at Davis.
“Heading to Australia for the first years of my medical training was a wonderful experience and a way to see how ‘General Practice’, as it is known there, is delivered in another country.
Now in New Orleans, Tyler is the Vice President of the UQ Ochsner Family Medicine Interest Group which aims to create a culture of support and community for medical students interested in family medicine.
He is also working on a project that will allow increased telehealth access to chronically ill patients of the New Orleans area.
The Dr. and Mrs. Roy Gregory Scholarship was established in 2018 through a generous endowment from the Gregory family.
Dr. Gregory practiced primary care for 37 years in Mandeville, LA. His 2-person practice was the first on the Northshore to join the Ochsner system, eventually growing into a primary care practice of 14 physicians with three locations including a “super clinic” in Covington.
Dr. Gregory retired from practice in 1997.
