If you want to become a licensed physician in the United States, passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK are critical milestones.

These exams assess your foundation of knowledge, clinical reasoning, and readiness to provide safe, effective patient care.

For many students, they represent some the most challenging aspects of medical training.

That is why choosing the right MD program matters.

The University of Queensland –Ochsner Doctor of Medicine (MD) program offers a pathway tailored for US students to succeed, with a strong focus on USMLE preparation from day one.

What are USMLE Step exams?

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-part exam required for medical licensure in the US.

  • Step 1 assesses your understanding of core biomedical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and microbiology
  • Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) evaluates how well you apply this knowledge in a clinical setting
  • Step 3 is taken during internship after graduation from medical school

At UQ-Ochsner, students take Step 1 at the end of their second year and Step 2 CK during their final year, just like students in US-based MD programs.

A USMLE-focused curriculum, designed for success

Our MD program is unique with students completing two years in Australia before returning to the US for clinical training.

What sets UQ-Ochsner apart from other international programs is that it is built specifically for US students preparing to practice in the US.
