Each year, the Teacher of the Year Awards celebrate the educators who guide our students and shape the future of medicine. These awards remind us that great physicians begin with great teachers.

This year’s award winner, Dr Marlon Joseph, was nominated by students who described a mentor who leads with care, clarity and genuine commitment.

Students praised his ability to connect with learners from the first day of their GP rotation.

"He made an effort to connect with and support all students while on the GP rotation and his lecture style was engaging and effective."

Another nomination highlighted his approach to supporting growth:

"Dr. Joseph is very dedicated to enhancing the learning of his students and is invested in making sure that you get the most out of your learning opportunities. He is very approachable and actively seeks student feedback so that he can continue to improve his teaching."

Dr Joseph’s mentorship also reaches beyond clinical teaching. A student leading a quality improvement project wrote:

"Dr. Joseph is incredibly supportive of us students outside of the clinic. When I approached him about leading a quality improvement project to address food insecurity at the clinic, he immediately jumped on board with enthusiasm.

He has guided us through the process with patience and encouragement, making himself available for questions and offering thoughtful advice. His willingness to mentor us through this project has made it not only possible but also both an enjoyable and meaningful experience.

Dr. Joseph’s passion for medicine rubs off on all the students he works with, both MS4s and high schoolers alike. He’s an attending with whom I feel comfortable to talk to and discuss ideas; he is as brilliant as he is inspiring, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have worked with him this block."

Dr Joseph was selected from a strong field of Teacher of the Year finalists, including:

  • Derek Anderson, MD
  • Megan Brooks, MD
  • Rev. Anthony De Conciliis
  • Jayesh Madrecha, MD
  • Stephen Moran, MD
