In this White Coat Wednesday episode, third-year medical student Savanah Fowler sits down with Erika Ferguson, her classmate and the Junior Liaison for the Ochsner Medical Students Association (OMSA). Erika, originally from Sacramento, California, and a graduate of UC San Diego, shares insights into her role and the collaborative environment at the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School.
As Junior Liaison, Erika's responsibilities include acting as a bridge between students, faculty, and interest groups, distributing important updates through weekly newsletters. OMSA's mission focuses on student advocacy, promoting academics, and organizing social events to enhance the medical school experience.
Erika also discusses her journey to UQ-Ochsner, which stemmed from her desire to study abroad and her eventual decision to pursue medicine. After speaking with current students, she was drawn to the school's collaborative and supportive culture, which set it apart from other programs. Erika highlights the program's strong clinical experiences, such as her observership in the oncology department at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital, as a standout feature of her time studying the UQ-Ochsner MD program.
Erika's story reflects the program’s commitment to student involvement, teamwork, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
