Published 21 Jul, 2022  ·  1 minute

This week on White Coat Wednesday, we hear from Monique Salazar a third-year UQ-Ochsner medical student interviewed by fellow student, Lily Morrison.

Monique attended Emory University, receiving an undergraduate degree in Human Health and is the proud recipient of the 2022 Perla S. Gill, MD Scholarship, which supports female medical students of Hispanic descent, a group who have traditionally been under-represented in the medical profession.

We find out more about Dr Gil and the process to be considered for the scholarship.

Before starting her medical school journey, Monique grew up in Miami, Florida, with a mother originally from Cuba and her father from Nicaragua.

She shares how she found out about UQ-Ochsner through an article in the Wall Street Journal and what opportunities she had during her time in Australia.
