White Coat Wednesday
Published 7 Sep, 2022  ·  1 minute

This week on White Coat Wednesday, we meet fourth-year UQ-Ochsner medical student, Rana Mehdizadeh.

Following this week’s announcement of Rana being the 2022 recipient of the Dr. and Mrs. Roy Gregory Scholarship for Family Medicine, we get to find more about her medical journey.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Rana completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley followed by a Master’s degree in Medical Science.

We discuss how her interest for Family Medicine first developed after doing a month-long observership in a rural family practice in Tasmania, at the end of her first year. She witnessed the wide variety of patients, long standing relationships and the impact the physicians make every day.

Later on, after completing the OBGYN, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine rotations, her interest for Family Medicine became a confident choice for her specialty. After being a third-year representative for the Family Medicine Interest Group, Rana is now the current President.

Outside of medical school, she enjoys staying active with hiking, indoor rock climbing, cooking and volunteering for non-profit associations. She is currently a board member of the New Orleans Adolescent Reproductive Health Project (NOARHP) which provides sexual health education in New Orleans public schools.
