This week on White Coat Wednesday, Emma Overmyer a fourth-year UQ-Ochsner medical student introduces us to Rohit Rajendra, a fellow fourth-year student and friend.
Rohit left his hometown in Houston, Texas, to pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia before starting his medical degree at UQ-Ochsner.
We discuss his involvement with OMSA (Ochsner Medical Student Association) as an academic representative followed by presidency this year and how fulfilling he finds it. Although his medical studies and contribution to OMSA takes a lot of time, Rohit also dedicates additional time to the Ochsner Critical Care Interest Group, as their president. Working with the various ICU departments (neuro, surgical, medical etc.), fellows and attendings, the group regularly organises workshops to develop practical skills.
We find out more about Rohit’s interest for research and one of the current projects he is working on with Dr Kathy Jo Carstarphen, focusing on telemedicine for the underserved communities in New Orleans.
We also discover Rohit’s passion for cycling and newfound interest for cooking.
