On this episode White Coat Wednesday we hear from 2022 UQ-Ochsner graduate Dr Hershey Cohen and her post-doctoral fellowship project on urinary sediment biomarkers for the diagnosis of Acute Tubular Necrosis (ATN). After hearing about the difficulties encountered to diagnose ATNs in the hospital setting on a podcast Hershey was inspired to dive into the research and shares how this new part of her medical journey feels.
Surrounded by a supportive team in the Nephrology Department, her mentor Dr Juan Carlos Velez and other fellows, she is hoping to contribute to the creation of a rapid test to diagnose ATN and improve the lives of many and perhaps answer even further questions about the kidney.
Looking into the future, Dr Cohen is focused on entering the academic setting as teacher and learner, continuing to be involved in research to exercise her curiosity and creativity beyond the clinical duties.
